Sixty years after graduating from the Tartu Art School, Jüri Kask has come full circle, returning to the leaning building. The former dormitory, now the Tartu Art Museum, is hosting Jüri Kask’s solo exhibition Blink of an Eye, starting on 1 November.
Kask is known for his large format works and love of colour, and stylistically he is considered to be one of the most consistent painters of geometric abstractionism in Estonia. Extending along two floors, the exhibition will take over the floors, the walls and the ceiling and, as usual for Kask, it will break boundaries. It is a pictorial language, honed to perfection, which evolves into a holistic world. Exhibited alongside drawings by Kask the student and abstract paintings by Kask the mature artist will be many works which have yet to be shown publicly.
Jüri Kask (born 1949) is a graduate of the Tartu Art School in artistic design and the State Art Institute of the ESSR in painting. He has participated in the Estonian art scene as a freelance artist since the 1970s and has taught art students in the Pallas University of Applied Sciences, the Estonian Academy of Arts and the University of Tartu.
The exhibition will be accompanied by a catalogue with a rich selection of photographic material.
